Lockheed Completes Preliminary Design Reviews for MDA’s Next-Generation Interceptor

Lockheed Martin has announced the successful validation of designs for all elements of the Next-Generation Interceptor with the Missile Defense Agency. According to Lockheed, a series of preliminary design reviews has proven the design maturity of all NGI major subsystems. The program is headed to its next major review, the All Up Round PDR, which will see MDA assessing if the program is ready to advance in the acquisition process through Knowledge Point number one and ultimately on to the critical design review. The first NGI is expected to be delivered as early as fiscal 2027, Lockheed said Monday.

The U.S. Army has awarded Oshkosh Defense a $201 million contract to supply the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles. The deal is anticipated to boost the Army's transport of warfighters and supplies and recovery of vehicles. An upgraded version of the aging FMTV A1P2 line of vehicles, the FMTV A2 reportedly comes with modernized engine and electrical systems, increased payload capacity and improved off-road capability. The company has supplied nearly 2,000 FMTV A2s and 1,000 FMTV trailers to the military service for a total of $858 million, The Defense Post reported.

Northrop Enters Next Phase of Arctic Satellite Broadband Mission

Northrop Grumman has initiated the next phase of pre-launch preparations for the Arctic Satellite Broadband Mission after delivering the ABSM's Control and Planning Segment ground system and the Enhanced Polar System Recapitalization payloads to the U.S. Space Force. ABSM is a two-satellite constellation that will deliver protected satellite communications to the Northern Polar region. It uses the GEOStar-3 platform, which includes the main satellite structure and systems required to maintain operations, Northrop said Monday.

BlackBerry Report: Cyber Threat Actors Increasingly Target Government Agencies, Public Services

Cyberattacks targeting government agencies and public services surged by 40 percent during a three-month period that ended in May 2023, according to the Global Threat Intelligence Report published by BlackBerry. The report said that the cyberthreats mostly came from Russia and North Korea, adding that threat actors continue to improve their techniques to defeat targets' cyber defenses. BlackBerry also noted that ransomware operators are increasingly aiming their attacks on the health care and financial services industries as data and critical services present a lucrative target for the threat actors, MeriTalk reported.

Autonomous systems manufacturer DZYNE Technologies has chosen Christopher Miller to serve as interim chief revenue officer, tasking him with driving growth efforts in the public sector and finding international partnership opportunities. He was formerly acting secretary of defense at the Department of Defense and director of the National Counterterrorism Center. A retired U.S. Army Special Forces officer, Miller has been part of DZYNE's board of directors since January, GovCon Wire reported.

NSWC PCD, Sagetech to Equip Drones With Identification Capabilities

The Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division has signed a cooperative research and development agreement with Sagetech Avionics to integrate Identification Friend or Foe capabilities in future unmanned aircraft systems. According to Gavin Taylor, NSWC PCD Expeditionary Systems Division engineer, the collaboration aims to present a value-added solution to the warfighter using any of the UAS that NSWC PCD will develop. NSWC PCD is creating a low-cost expendable UAS with a novel deployment method, Naval Sea Systems Command said Monday.

Lockheed Delivers 10th F-16V to Greece

Lockheed Martin has completed delivery of the 10th F-16V Fighting Falcon to Greece. According to the company, the milestone was attained in cooperation with Hellenic Aerospace Industry about 11 months after the first two Hellenic Air Force F-16C/D Block 52+ Advanced aircraft to be upgraded to the F-16V standard were delivered to Greece in 2022. Lockheed is upgrading Greece's aircraft fleet under a $996.8 million Foreign Military Sales contract from the Department of Defense awarded in December 2018. Greece intends to extend the fleet's service life until 2048 through the F-16V program, Janes reported Monday.
